LibreOffice 26.2.7 Is Out — and 26.2 Support Ends 30 November

The Document Foundation announced LibreOffice 26.2.7 on 3 November 2026, and it comes with a deadline attached. It is the seventh maintenance update to the LibreOffice 26.2 branch — and the last one the branch will ever get. Support for the whole 26.2 line ends on 30 November 2026, so anyone still running it has a few weeks to install this final update and plan the move to LibreOffice 26.8. The update itself is a focused bug-fix release, and two of its fixes matter directly to anyone who shares documents: Word files that come back from Word looking wrong, and PDF exports with hyperlinks that don't work.
What 26.2.7 actually fixes
LibreOffice 26.2.7 is a maintenance release, not a feature release — it fixes bugs rather than adding tools. The Document Foundation lists the changes in its announcement, and the full fix lists are published for RC1, RC2 and RC3. The ones most readers will notice:
- macOS: a crash on startup on macOS 27 is fixed, along with a missing check mark in menus and a non-breaking hyphen that failed to render.
- Presentations: audio inserted in a presentation now plays again on Windows, where it had gone silent.
- Word files: two DOCX round-trip problems are fixed — table of contents hyperlinks that stopped working until the table was updated, and documents with data binding in a date picker that Word could not open after a round trip.
- PDF export: named hyperlinks now work when exporting to PDF — previously they came out dead.
- Calc: support for Web Query (.iqy) files is added.
- Python: the bundled interpreter is upgraded to 3.12.16, and a "PYTHONHOME" error after upgrading is fixed.
LibreOffice 26.2 requires Windows 10 or newer, and the update is available for Windows, macOS and Linux from libreoffice.org/download.
What "end of support" means on 30 November
End of life is not a shutdown — LibreOffice 26.2 will keep opening and saving your documents after 30 November. What stops is maintenance: no more bug fixes, and no more security updates. Any vulnerability found in the 26.2 code after that date stays unpatched, which is why The Document Foundation's advice is blunt — install 26.2.7 now, then move to the LibreOffice 26.8 line by the end of November, once 26.8.3 is announced. The current 26.8 release is 26.8.2, from 29 October. If you manage office computers for a team, that date is the real deadline: every 26.2 install in the office should be on 26.8 before December.
What to do before 30 November
Four steps, in order:
- Check your version. Open LibreOffice and go to Help → About LibreOffice. If the version starts with 26.2, you are on the line that is ending.
- Install 26.2.7. It is available now from libreoffice.org/download for Windows, macOS and Linux, and it is the last 26.2 release — there will not be a 26.2.8.
- Plan the move to 26.8. The Document Foundation points to the 26.8.3 announcement, expected before the end of November, as the moment to switch.
- Test a Word round trip. If you share documents with Word users, open a .docx in Writer after updating, save it, and reopen it in Word — the two DOCX fixes in this release target exactly the cases that used to break.
What it means for your PDFs
The fix most relevant here is the PDF one: named hyperlinks in exported PDFs now work. If you have been exporting documents from LibreOffice and finding dead links in the PDF, re-export with 26.2.7 and the links come through. The DOCX fixes matter too, because most broken-looking PDFs start life as a document that was edited in two programs — every round trip through Word is a chance for the layout to shift, and a shifted layout is what your PDF inherits.
That is also the moment to freeze the document. Once a file is finished, convert it to PDF and send the PDF, not the editable original — a PDF looks identical on every computer, while a Word file can reflow the moment it opens on a machine without your fonts. PDFZippy's Word to PDF tool does the conversion in your browser, with nothing uploaded, and PDF to PDF/A converts the result to the archival standard that portals and archives ask for. Keep the editable original for yourself; send the PDF to everyone else.

Frequently asked questions
Is LibreOffice 26.2.7 the last update for the 26.2 line?
Yes. The Document Foundation announced LibreOffice 26.2.7 on 3 November 2026 as the seventh and last maintenance update to the 26.2 branch. The branch reaches the end of its life on 30 November 2026, after which it gets no more bug fixes or security updates.
What happens if I stay on LibreOffice 26.2 after 30 November 2026?
LibreOffice 26.2 keeps working, but The Document Foundation will publish no more bug fixes or security updates for it. Any vulnerability found after that date stays unpatched, so the advice is to move to the LibreOffice 26.8 line by the end of November.
What does LibreOffice 26.2.7 fix for Word and PDF files?
Two DOCX round-trip problems are fixed: table of contents hyperlinks that stopped working until the table was updated, and documents with data binding in a date picker that Word could not open after a round trip. On the PDF side, named hyperlinks now work when exporting to PDF — previously they came out dead.
How do I check which LibreOffice version I have?
Open LibreOffice and go to Help, then About LibreOffice. If the version starts with 26.2, you are on the line that is ending. Install 26.2.7 from libreoffice.org/download, then plan the move to LibreOffice 26.8 before the end of November.
