Cookie Policy
PDFZippy runs almost entirely without cookies. This page lists exactly what is used, and what will change if advertising is enabled.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. They can be strictly necessary (the site cannot work securely without them), functional (remembering your choices), analytics (counting visits) or advertising (personalizing and measuring ads). Browsers also offer local storage, a similar on-device store that never leaves your device; we list both below for completeness.
2. What PDFZippy itself sets
- No tracking cookies. Our tools process your files 100% in your browser, and we do not set cookies to identify or follow you.
- On-device preferences (local storage, not cookies): your light/dark theme choice, whether you dismissed the announcement bar, and a cached copy of the site's public configuration (such as the announcement text) so pages load without shifting. These values never leave your device and contain no personal data.
- Anonymous usage counts: we count tool usage events per day (for example, how many PDFs were merged) using our own first-party counter. It sets no cookie, stores no identifier, and records no file names, file contents or IP addresses.
- Admin session: a session cookie is used only on the private /admin/ sign-in used by the site operator. Regular visitors never receive it.
3. Cookies set by our hosting provider (Cloudflare)
PDFZippy is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare may set strictly-necessary security cookies (for example __cf_bm) to distinguish human visitors from bots and to protect the site against abuse. These cookies are essential for security, carry no advertising or cross-site tracking profile, and expire automatically (typically within hours). Cloudflare's own cookie use is described in the Cloudflare Cookie Policy.
4. Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see aggregate visit numbers (page views, countries, popular pages). It is cookieless: it sets no cookie and does not track visitors across other websites.
5. Advertising cookies (when ads are enabled)
PDFZippy is free and may be supported by advertising in the future. As of the date below, no advertising cookies are set. When ads are enabled (for example via Google AdSense):
- Google and its advertising partners may set cookies (such as DoubleClick cookies) to serve ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and — where you have allowed it — personalize ads based on your visits to this and other sites.
- Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), a consent banner will ask for your permission before any non-essential advertising cookies are set, and you will be able to change your choice.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time via Google Ads Settings, aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (Europe).
6. How to control or delete cookies
Every modern browser lets you view, block and delete cookies: look under Settings → Privacy and security (Chrome, Edge), Settings → Privacy & Security (Firefox) or Settings → Privacy (Safari). Blocking cookies will not break PDFZippy's tools — your files are processed locally either way — but your theme and banner preferences may be forgotten between visits.
7. Changes to this policy
If the cookies we use ever change — in particular when advertising is switched on — this page will be updated first and the "Last updated" date below will change. See also our Privacy Policy.
